Sea Pines Rosie Gwynn Junior Championships Another Success
Smith Stearns Tennis Academy students compete at their home event.
October 31, 2009 -- Sea Pines Racquet Club hosted the 6th annual Sea Pines Rosie Gwynn Junior Tennis Championships from October 24th-26th. It was another competitive event with entrants from all around the Southern Section. The tournament was fabulously run by the tournament staff and included events such as free clinics and a special complimentary welcome dinner at the Sea Pines Beach Club.
Smith Stearns Tennis Academy students shined once again at their home tournament. Their success was highlighted by Katherine White who was the champion in the girl’s 18 and under division. She defeated fellow Smith Stearns student Caryssa Peretz in the final match by a score of 1-6 6-4 7-5. Both Samantha Light and Kendal Drake were quarterfinalists in the tournament, losing to Peretz and White. Light went on to get 6th place. In the boy’s 18 and under 3rd and 4th place playoff, it was two Smith Stearns students once again, as Michael Reilly beat Alex Calott in another tough three set match.
In the boy’s 16 and under division Aaron Cotton got third place defeating Zachary Bost in the playoff match, while George Handy was a quarterfinalist. Jack O’Koniewski placed 4th in the boy’s 14 and under division. Other Smith Stearns student’s who participated in the tournament included Elkie Van den Beemt, Tiffany Dorau, and Sabrina Drammis.
