Erkan has International Success
Leyla Erkan has had a successful start on the ITF circuit.
October 31, 2009 -- This fall, Leyla Erkan has changed it up a bit. She has decided to focus playing in mainly junior circuit events hosted by the International Tennis Federation. In September, Erkan was a quarterfinalist in both singles and doubles at the grade 4 ITF tournament held in Urbana, Illinois. In doubles, she partnered with fellow Smith Stearns student Kaitlin Ray. Erkan was also a doubles semi-finalist in the grade 4 ITF in Atlanta, with partner Breaunna Addison.
In October, Erkan traveled to Montreal, Canada to compete in the ITF World Ranking Event. She reached the finals, defeating world #121 ranked Canadian player Marianne Jodoin along the way, before falling to Robin Anderson of the United States.
Erkan will continue to play ITF events for the remainder of the fall. Next up, Columbia, South Carolina!
