Reilly Wins Doubles at Southern Spring Closed

Michael Reilly finished in the top 12 of singles and won the doubles at the prestigious southern tournament.

June 22, 2009 -- Smith Stearns student Michael Reilly posted some impressive results this May by finishing top 12 in singles and winning the doubles championship at the Southern Spring Closed in Mobile, Alabama which was held May 8-11. Reilly is 16 years old and hails from Raleigh, North Carolina. He has been training at the Smith Stearns Tennis Academy since August 2008.

Reilly partnered with Becker O’Shaughnessy to defeat five different teams en route to the boy’s 16 and under title. They defeated the duo of Karl/Woog in the semifinals by a score of 8-4. In the championship match they defeated Conlon/Gordon by a score of 8-5 to secure the title.

Reilly also just competed in the North Carolina State Qualifier in the boy’s 16’s division. He placed 4th in the singles competition. Next up for Michael will be the Southern Closed, followed by the Clay Court and Hard Court Nationals.
