Begley Completes Successful Fall
Elizabeth Begley played some outstanding tennis this fall capturing the singles title at the El Paso ITF and by reaching the semi-final round at the prestigious Eddie Herr International Tournament in Bradenton, Florida.
February 5, 2009 -- Elizabeth won her first International Tennis Federation singles title by winning the El Paso Youth Tennis Centre ITF which was held October 13-19th, 2008. She defeated Millie Nichols in a grueling 3 set match in the semi-finals and went on to decisively defeat Nicole Melichar, by the score of 6-3,6-1 in the championship match.
She continued her fine play at the prestigous Eddie Herr International Tournament held in December, in Bradenton, Florida. Elizabeth defeated Maria Bernandez, Nicole Melichar, Jasmine Minor, and Ingrid Radu, before falling to the top ranked Canadian player Eugenie Bouchard in the semi-final round of the girl’s 16 and under division. Bouchard went on to win the title.
Elizabeth started off the 2009 year by traveling to Australia to compete in more international events. She qualified in the Opus Nottinghill International Tournament and competed in the qualifying event of the Australian Open Juniors.
